Since I’m staying home with Micah, and we currently have 1 income coming in, I have been looking for ways that we can save money. Instead of it being a chore or something that we have to do, it’s really been a fun challenge for me to find ways to cut back financially. A lady at Tim’s work was telling him about this website that had a bunch of tips, coupons, freebies and deals at different stores in the area. I’ve been a faithful follower of this blog, Frugal in Virginia, and it has been my inspiration to start cutting coupons. Every Sunday (well, at least for the past month) we’ve been stopping at the gas station to get the paper after church so I can collect all of the coupons. We found out that Harris Teeter had 4 days that they would triple coupons!!! So on Thursday, we braved the cold weather for our first triple coupon event to get our amazing deals! Many items we were able to get for $1 or less or even free!! We even went back on Sunday night to use the coupons that we got in the newspaper earlier that afternoon. Our first trip, we spent about $21 and saved $29 in coupons! Our second trip, we spent about $7 and saved almost $19 in coupons! It was so much fun…I think even Tim enjoyed it!
(The picture above includes almost all of the items we purchased on our first shopping trip.)

That is awesome Kristen. I need to find out a place where they do the triple coupons...I also have been cutting out coupons as well the last month trying to save money. Maybe I will ask around here and see where the best place to use them is!
Welcome to the addicting world of couponing!! Kristen Lownes got me into it. Just wait until Bloom's has their triple-coupon weekend! Their regular prices are even better than Harris Teeter so you'll do REALLY well there.
Lacie- That's awesome! I didn't know about Bloom's, so thanks for telling me about that store, too! Yes, it is addicting:)
So fun isn't it! I think my first trip my bill was $80 and I paid $18! I never thought to take a pic...but it was so inspiring...I was hooked for life:)
By the way, you need to stop getting the paper at the gas station! You can call Virginian Pilot and negotiate a great deal with them! I get the Sunday and Wednesday paper (it has some coupons as well) for $40/year! So...when you call tell them you want the same deal your friend is getting...and they should match it! If not, call me and I'll work something out!
Wow! Thanks for the tip, Anne! That's great to find out! We'll definitely investigate this and find out if we can get a deal. And since the newspaper business is kind of struggling right now, I bet they would be willing to cut us a sweet deal! Thanks:)
Friday-Sunday this week is triple couponing at Bloom's---up to $.99
I'm just now checking your blog. That was mine and Dad's common interest that we did together when we had all four kids at home--clipping coupons and saving money! And rebates. I don't pay as much attention anymore because it's just the two of us and there aren't that many coupons of products we use.
